Demonstration of SDGs 6 (6.1 & 6.2) compliance on WASH in Communities, Kavre District (Province-3)

Objectives:
  • To establish and operate WASH Information Management system at Rural Municipality level.
  • To establish and formalize Water Quality testing mechanism MoU on operation and maintenance at Rural Municipality Level.
  • To demonstrate Water Safe Communities at Targeted Rural municipalities.
Key Activities:
  • WASH facility mapping by using Mobile based monitoring system to measure the sustainability of model water supply schemes.
  • Training on Climate Resilient Water Safety Plan.
  • Capacity building of Rural Municipality on Water Quality Testing.
  • Formalization of MoUs on Operation and Maintenance.
  • Declaration of Water Safe Community.
Expected Results:
Increased capacity to improve water quality and functionality and to deliver and sustain safe water (especially schools and health care facilities).

Major Achievements:

Date Title
3 Water Supply and Sanitation User’s Committees (WSUCs) of targeted Rural Municipalities are practicing WASH facility mapping by using Mobile based monitoring system.
30 People trained on Climate Resilient Water Safety Plan. Conduction of "Training on Climate Resilient Water Safety Plan" from 15-18 April, 2019. There were 30 participants (26 Male and 4 Female) who participated in the training program from 6 Municipalities and 7 Rural Municipalities, Civic Forum staffs and other CSOs representative.
Completed Water Quality monitoring trainings at Municipality and Rural Municipality level. Conduction of "Training on Water Quality Testing using field test kit" from 11-12 April, 2019. There were 16 participants (10 Male and 6 Female).
Formalization of MoUs on Operation and Maintenance was completed in 3 WSUCs. Formal signing of the MoU of 3 schemes- Chhage water supply scheme, Dhitaltole water supply scheme and Goltar water supply scheme was done. The MoU included clear roles and responsibilities of different actor such as Users, WSUCs, Rural Municipality and Municipality for long term sustainability of water supply schemes.
Water Safe Community Declaration of 2 Communities was done. On 29th April, 2019, Dhulikhel Municipality organized "Water Safe Community Declaration Programme" and declared Chhage and Dhitaltole community, the First Water Safe Community in Nepal. There were more than 400 attendees in this event.
