Civic Forum for Sustainable Development (Civic Forum) is one of the leading member-based Nepalese non-governmental organizations (NGOs) based in Kavrepalanchok District of Bagmati Province. Civic Forum is a pioneer, autonomous, non-profit-making, non-racial, and non-political organization, established with the primary aim of contributing to environmentally friendly sustainable development. Civic Forum was registered on March 16, 2004, with Registration Number 785/2060/61, in accordance with Section 4 of the Associations Registration Act, 1977 of Nepal, at the District Administration Office (DAO), Kavrepalanchok, under the Government of Nepal (GoN), Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA). Civic Forum has also been affiliated with the Social Welfare Council (SWC) since March 26, 2004, in accordance with Section 13 of the Social Welfare Act, 1992.
Civic Forum was founded to promote environmentally friendly and sustainable development through people’s participation, empowerment, and leadership development. The organization is committed to fostering inclusive and equitable development by engaging highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated professionals to design and implement community-based initiatives in a sustainable manner. Civic Forum focuses on improving the well-being of poor, marginalized, and vulnerable populations through participatory and rights-based approaches.
Civic Forum is a development-oriented organization engaged in social mobilization and the implementation of inclusive and sustainable development interventions since its establishment. The organization provides technical, institutional, and programmatic support to governmental and non-governmental agencies, as well as other development partners, with a focus on strengthening community-led development processes. It is committed to promoting equitable and holistic development of deprived and marginalized populations, including women, children, Dalits, Janajatis, low-caste groups, and other ethnic and indigenous communities. Recognizing the persistent barriers these groups face-such as geographical inaccessibility, institutional weaknesses in service delivery systems, and structural discrimination based on gender, caste, and ethnicity-Civic Forum works to enhance their access to essential services, promote social inclusion, and strengthen community resilience through participatory and rights-based approaches.
