Technical Assistance to Implement Water Safe Communities in Karnali and Far West Province
Objectives:
- To provide training on Water Safety Plan to the selected Water Supply and Sanitation Users Committees (WSUCs) of Karnali province and Far West province of Nepal.
- To demonstrate water safety plans at selected communities.
- To build capacity of the selected Local NGOs, Palikas on establishment of water quality monitoring mechanism including water quality testing.
- To prepare inventory of water supply schemes in selected Palikas.
- To facilitate water safe community declaration processes in selected Palikas.
- To declare water safe communities in selected communities.
- To provide monitoring support to selected Palikas and civil society organizations.
Key Activities:
- Provide training on Water Safety Plan (WSP) to the selected Water Supply and Sanitation Users committees (WSUCs).
- Demonstrate water safety plans at selected communities.
- Build capacity of the selected palikas and civil society organizations (CSO) on establishment of water quality monitoring mechanism including water quality testing.
- Prepare inventory of water supply schemes in selected palikas based on secondary information.
- Facilitate water safe community declaration processes in selected palikas.
- Declare water safe communities in selected communities.
- Provide additional monitoring support to selected palikas and civil society organizations for WSP implementation.
- Capacity building of targeted Water Supply and Sanitation Users Committee's (WSUCs) on Water Safety Plan (WSP).
Expected Results:
Increased capacity to improve water quality and functionality and to deliver and sustain safe water (especially in schools and health care facilities).

| Water Safe Community Declaration of 2 Communities was done. On 17th February, 2020, Simta Rural Municipality organized "Water Safe Community Declaration Programme" and declared Simalgaun and Thakuritole community, the First Water Safe Community in Karnali Province in Nepal. There were more than 140 attendees in this event. |
