To improve health, hygiene and sanitation practice of marginalized community people of the Banakhu VDC, Kavrepalanchok

Objectives: To build toilet and installing cooking stove for the marginalized community people.

 

Key Activities:

  • Orientation and sensitization of women and community organizations of health, hygiene and sanitation.
  • Materials support to construction of toilets.
  • Materials support to installation of Improved Cooking Stove (ICS) and kitchen management for rural women groups.

 

Project Period: 7 months (December, 2009-June, 2010)

Project Location: BanakhuVDC of Kavrepalanchok, district

Funding Partner (s): Australian Embassy, Nepal / Direct Aid Program (DAP)

 

Major Achievements:

  • 3 days orientation conducted for women and community organizations members.
  • Total 80 people who included 48 female and 32 male were the direct beneficiaries and the stakeholders were sensitized and informed about health, hygiene and sanitation for healthy living.
  • 111 Improved Cooking Stove (ICS) were installed in deprived and dalits households resulting into reduced indoor pollution benefiting rural women and children in terms of health and sanitation.
  • 75 Toilets construction in deprived and dalits households.  The total beneficiaries from the toilet construction were 269 female and 203 male within 75 households, in which there were 22 dalits and 53 deprived Janajatis.
